Keep Suite

The entrance to Keep Suite follows the time-honoured routes of the Middle Ages as you traverse bridges and stairs to reach the suite.  The keep at Durham castle has been described as ‘arising from the “tumulus of rising earth reaching “into thin air, strong within and without”, a “stalwart house…glittering with beauty in every part”.

The Keep Suite is actually four distinct sections: the bedroom, the verandah parlour, the verandah garden, and a private Teahouse “the castle keep itself”…   find out more about Keep Suite here.

Zenana

The literal meaning of the word Zenana is “of the women” or “pertaining to women”. The Zenana are the inner apartments of a house in which the women of the family lived and was off-limits to men who were not members of the family.

The room was designed to replicate paradise. The Russian influence came from the idea to use the paintings of Russian artist Lev Basky which depict the glorious freedom of woman as opposed to the oppressed and incarcerated existences of women in the harem… find out more about Zenana here.

Seyyed

Seyyed’s main theme is the regal grandeur of the room and reflects the stately nature afforded to the Sultans. In keeping with this theme the Sultans’ royal seal is used as a decoration on the bedcover and also on a chair and the colours of Omani red accompanied with gold underline these qualities… find out more about Seyyed here.

With the entire north side of this room facing the Indian Ocean with only a lattice wall to protect, the imagination is transported to the distant horizon: other lands, other shores and other people.

This and the view of the dhows, either moored and gently bobbing on the tides or gliding elegantly out towards the horizon evoking memories of trade and adventure , inspires the major influence in this room’s design and colour scheme… find out more about North Room here.

Best Restaurant Recommendation in Stone Town
One of the best Restaurants in Stone Town to try local food. The food was full of positive surprises in taste combinations. The staff are kind and serve your food with a smile on. Would recommend it to anyone who is planning to visit Stone Town.

Favourite hotel room in the world
The north room at Emerson on Hurumzi is probably my favourite hotel room in the world. It’s like being in a fairy tale. One side of the room consists of ‘French’ windows which open to a balcony with the most amazing ocean view ever. If you open all the windows it gives you the illusion you’re sleeping outside and with being so high up it’s like sleeping in ‘heaven’. Then there’s the massive stone tub which easily fits two people, and it’s partially in the open air so I can highly recommend having a late night bath while gazing at the moon and stars. The staff are absolutely amazing, professional and efficient and above all super friendly, like most people are on the island. In short, Emerson on Hurumzi is probably one of the most authentic Zanzibari experiences you could ask for.
Fabulous Hotel!
The photos do not do this property justice. It is a fabulous hotel! Incredibly unique, pristinely decorated, in a fantastic location, with very attentive and accommodating service. I, undoubtedly, will stay here on my next visit to Stone Town! It would be a missed opportunity to not stay here, I highly recommend it!

Rooms beautiful and spacious
Пришлось провести в ресторане этого отеля несколько часов. Приятное место, лобби красивый и аутентичный, в арабском стиле. Номера красивые и просторные, насколько комфортные неизвестно. (Trans: I had to spend a few hours in the restaurant of this hotel. Pleasant place, lobby is beautiful and authentic, in Arabic style. The rooms are beautiful and spacious)

Authentic Architectural Symbol in Zanzibar
Myself and my partner decided to stay here the night before we left the island and it was a very good choice. The building is an authentic architectural symbol in Zanzibar Stonetown. The Room was spacious and full of character and great features, silent and peaceful despite being in the middle of the city.  We also had dinner on the roof top with a set menu, full of flavours and variety of dishes combined with local food and spices.
We LOVE this hotel
Our 4th stay at Emerson Spice and certainly not the last! We LOVE this hotel! Being here is not just a normal hotel stay – its an experience. Fantastic decor, and extremely friendly staff. No trip to Zanzibar is complete without a lunch in “The Secret Garden” and dinner on their rooftop.,. It really is a very special property indeed!

The Best Hotels In Zanzibar Ranked & Reviewed (2020)
The rooms are filled with antique furniture and rich textures. Small touches like locally produced soaps and towels, antique books and even air con are featured in each room. Passion has been poured into the Emerson Spice and it is obvious. We felt as if we’d cast away in the days of old. Time slowed down and we soaked up the atmosphere of the buzzing Stone Town streets from our private balcony.
Place I enjoy staying in Stone Town
We spent 3 nights at this hotel in September and it was everything I could have hoped. The uniqueness of the hotel and how it fitted into the local ‘street-scape’ made it the type of place I really enjoy staying at. Each room has its own amazing theme and as soon as you enter you feel like you are in another world. Centrally located in Stone Town the staff are warm and welcoming.
