Rated 1 on Trip Advisor for a reason
We had dinner there last night and found the whole experience fantastic. Staff were exceptional, view phenomenal and food plentiful and tasty. Top thing to do in Zanzibar. Rated 1 on Trip Advisor for a reason!
The best rooftop restaurant in Stone Town
The best rooftop restaurant in Stone Town. It just is. The best restaurant in Stone Town. Amazing rooftop view of the city at sundown, good cocktails, friendly staff and some of the best food in town. We suggest you book a table instead of sitting on cushions, it’s more comfortable when eating. And try to go there when then have musicians playing, it adds a whole other dimension to the experience. If you don’t try it when in Stone Town you will regret it!

The rooms are filled with antique furniture and rich textures. Small touches like locally produced soaps and towels, antique books and even air con are featured in each room. Passion has been poured into the Emerson Spice and it is obvious. We felt as if we’d cast away in the days of old. Time slowed down and we soaked up the atmosphere of the buzzing Stone Town streets from our private balcony.

Dinner on the Rooftop Tea House was our most memorable in Zanzibar and should be experienced by all who visit Stone Town. Diners sit atop cushions and large Persian rugs on the hotel’s roof while a velvet roof dances in the wind. Evening cocktails begin at 18:00 and dinner is served at 19:00, make sure to book a spot in advance as the demand is high.

Emerson Spice – Exotic, Stylish and Atmospheric
This was one of my favourite places to drink tea in the 1990s. Returning to Zanzibar recently, I stayed for two nights and it was such a delight to see how the hotel has been so lovingly brought back to life. The staff were charming and extremely helpful and the hotel is ideally situated for exploring Stone Town. There is no better place to watch the sunset from the Tea House on the rooftop. Highly recommended. I can’t wait for my next visit.
Place I enjoy staying in Stone Town
We spent 3 nights at this hotel in September and it was everything I could have hoped. The uniqueness of the hotel and how it fitted into the local ‘street-scape’ made it the type of place I really enjoy staying at. Each room has its own amazing theme and as soon as you enter you feel like you are in another world. Centrally located in Stone Town the staff are warm and welcoming.

One of the best and most beautiful hotels in Stone Town
Delicious food in the restaurant. This is a great way to experience Stone Town. The view from their rooftop is second to none and the sunset is stunning. The Sunset Dinner is highly recommended. One of the best and most beautiful hotels in Stone Town. A taste of Zanzibar. The perfect way to experience the sights and sounds of magical Spice Island.

Dining on the rooftop is like being in a movie
My friend told me that dining on the rooftop is like being in a movie. So I did. And it is! Reserve in advance – the rooftop is not big. The food is excellent once you climb the steep 99 steps. Feel free to get distracted by the beautiful interior. The live entertainment completes the motion picture experience. I didn’t stay in the hotel but I am sure I would feel like a movie star if I did.

This hotel totally captures the spirit of Stone Town
Quirkily charming this former palace has retained it’s character. This hotel totally captures the spirit of Stone Town–it’s history and its culture. Our room at the top (North) had great view of the rooftops, an outdoor (but private!) shower, and most amazing of all–and air-conditioned (as well as mosquito-netted) bed!

Lovely sunset ocean view
We stayed in the Blue room, which was beautiful and had a large tub and sitting area. Our friends stayed in the North room, which had a lovely sunset ocean view on a private terrace and open-air tub. You can have breakfast in your room for no extra charge.
This Stone Town Hotel was beautiful
The hotel was beautiful and the staff are beyond attentive and friendly. They truly think of everything from environmentally conscious soaps, to separate beach towels. The rooms are very clean and the historical architecture and furniture truly complement the mystery of Stone Town.  When we checked out, they gave us a room to use for shower and lounging for the full day at no extra charge. We were so impressed with their hospitality.

Food was delicious, views and atmosphere amazing!
Would highly recommend the Emerson. As for the restaurant, we had dinner on the rooftop with live music. Food was delicious, views and atmosphere amazing and service, again, personal and excellent. It felt like a history lesson with your meal, which we enjoyed to learn about customs and culture.
Must do in Zanzibar
Must do in Zanzibar. The dinner on the roof with the sunset was just great… all with live music of traditional Zanzibari music… you miss something if you don’t add it to the program.
