Young and gifted Zanzibari female vocalists will be appearing before a panel of judges and performing for this prestigious award. Join us in celebrating the up and coming female musicians, who are sustaining Zanzibar’s musical traditions.

Emerson Zanzibar Music Award 2022 – The Competition
The board of the Emerson’s Zanzibar Foundation is delighted to announce its sixth Music Award 2022.
The award for this year is intended for women singers. under the theme, ‘Women Arise‘. This follows the Sauti za Busara 2022 theme of ‘Amplifying Women’s Voices‘.
This is a great opportunity for emerging women singers/lyricist of Unguja and Pemba to promote themselves locally and Internationally at a platform, which aims to inspire and award local talents.
The award for the musicians include, prize money of 2 million TZS, an engraved trophy and a framed certificate for the winner.
Competition Details
The Sixth Emerson Zanzibar Foundation Music Award 2022 will be part of the Sauti za Busara Music Festival 2022.
- Theme: “Women Arise” for women singers & performers
- Competition Date and Time: Thursday 10th Feb, 2022 at 4–6pm (after Asri to Maghrib prayers)
- Venue: Forodhani Gardens, Band stand
- Event: Public

Recipient of the the 6th Emerson’s Zanzibar Foundation Music Award is Lailat Faki Kombo
There were 8 contestants, and each gave a memorable performance! It was a healthy competition demonstrated through mutual support and a positive attitude, partly conveyed through melodious ululations.
The contestants all attended a pre-competition training workshop, organised and conducted by the Foundation.
The panel of judges assessed the performance of the 8 singers by a set criteria, and selected Lailat as the worthy recipient of the award.
Our congratulations extend to all the participating singers for their outstanding performances.
Lailat is an up and coming talented singer. This is her second time competing for a prestigious award. She showed additional talents in the film‚ ’’The Rite of Awakening’’.
The Award was presented at a lively ceremony on the closing night of the Sauti za Busara International Music Festival in the Old Fort.
A post-award celebration will be held in honour of all participating artists at Emerson Spice Secret Garden.
