Young and gifted Zanzibari vocalists, singers and poets will be appearing before a panel of judges and performing for this prestigious award. Join us in celebrating the up and coming local musicians, who are sustaining Zanzibar’s musical and poetry traditions.
Emerson Zanzibar Music Award 2023 – The Competition
The board of the Emerson’s Zanzibar Foundation is delighted to announce its seventh Music Award 2023.
The award for this year is intended for local artsist, under the theme, ‘My Composition‘ music/poetry. This follows the Sauti za Busara 2023 theme of “Urithi ni neema” (heritage is our prosperity).
This is a great opportunity for emerging songwriters/lyricist of Unguja and Pemba to promote themselves locally and Internationally at a platform, which aims to inspire and award local talents.
The award for the musicians include, prize money of 2 million TZS, an engraved trophy and a framed certificate for the winner.
Competition Details
The Seventh Emerson Zanzibar Foundation Music Award 2023 will be part of the Sauti za Busara Music Festival 2023.

Safari Duo impressed the judges with their own composed and performed the song called "NAPAZA SAUTI". Congratulations to all those participating for their outstanding performances.
The 8th Emerson Zanzibar Foundation Music Award was presented at an exciting and lively ceremony on Saturday night, at the Sauti za Busara International Music Festival on the main stage in the Old Fort, Stone Town.
The award which includes: prize money, an engraved trophy and elegant certificate was presented on the second day of Sauti za Busara 2024 by last years winner, Tryphon Everest.
The Foundation promotes art and culture, through the existing Film, Music and Art awards, to provide ongoing active support for talented Zanzibaris to gain recognition and the opportunities to be seen #musiclover

Rogoo and the representative of Camii proudly opened the new exhibition for the weekend in the Emerson’s Zanzibar Foundation Art Gallery & Café.
Camii is studying architecture and could unfortunately not join us during the opening event, however her sister spoke proudly about the artwork that is on display for the exhibition. Rogoo is showing his fine pen & ink drawings as well as several watercolours during this exhibition, all in the theme of “Jiji na Kijiji” (Zanzibar town & village)
Guest of honor, Dr Omar, the Executive Director of the Zanzibar Arts Council encouraged artists to stay creative and show the traditions of Zanzibar in their artwork.
All artworks on display are for sale!
The Emerson’s Zanzibar Foundation Art Gallery & Café in Hurumzi is open from 10.00 – 16.00 on Tuesday till Sunday.
Rogoo is currently using the Art Gallery as his workshop and can be found painting and drawing there regularly.

As part of the foundation`s 10 year anniversary celebrations, we seek the services of a skilled documentary filmmaker to create a documentary capturing the essence and achievements of the Emerson Foundation over the decade.
